Whether you love it or hate it… it’s that time of year again for holiday music. Now that Thanksgiving has come and gone, the festive tunes are out in full force to accompany you at the mall, at the grocery store, and in your car. While some people strictly pledge their loyalty to the holiday classics (see: “Jingle Bells”, “Silent Night”), others like to mix it up a little and get some more modern tunes into their mix (“Grandma Got Run Over By a Reindeer”, anyone?). While the song “Jingle Bell Rock” was originally performed by Bobby Helms in 1957 and has been a crowd favorite ever since, Lindsay Lohan and the rest of the cast of the movie Mean Girls took it to another level a few years ago. Who doesn’t love the movie Elf?! There seems to be an infinite number of versions of the popular duet “Baby It’s Cold Outside” out there, but this version between an unsuspecting showering Jovie (Zooey Deschannel) and friendly Buddy the Elf (Will Ferrell) adds an entertaining spin on the classic. This movie and its musical score turned into a Broadway musical in 2010.
The ladies LOVE Michael Buble, and for good reason! The smooth-talking crooner has found success covering the hits of 50’s and 60’s music greats, but he also has an impressive holiday music catalog. Check out Buble’s version of Darlene Love’s 1963 hit “Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)”, which has been no stranger to covers throughout the years.
All kidding aside, the holidays are a time to reflect on what truly matters in this world: the love of friends and family. The lyrics of the popular song “Christmas Time is Here” from the Charlie Brown Christmas special still hold true now, even though they were written in 1965: “Christmas time is here, we’ll be drawing near, oh that we will always see such spirit through the year…” Happy Holidays to you and yours from Signature Entertainment!
